For families that prefer to purchase individual courses, K12 offers direct purchase of grades K-8 curriculum products. These courses have the same quality materials and online lessons, but don’t include teacher support, transcripts, or loaner computer/printer. Direct purchase is ideal for families interested in supplemental education options or part- and full-time home-schooling.

Can my child work at his or her own pace?
Absolutely. All of our K-8 courses are designed so that your child can move forward in each subject at a pace that’s right for him or her.

Can I choose different grade levels for different subjects?
Yes! Our adaptive placement tests will help you determine the correct starting point for your child. Based on these results you can choose the appropriate course level for your child in each subject. For example, if your first grader is more advanced in math and Language Arts, you can choose a program with first-grade Art, History, Music, and Science and second-grade Math and Language Arts.

Are there independent study options for high school students?
No. High school students can choose from full- or part-time options , but with the exception of foreign language, K12 only offers teacher-supported high school courses. High school students can also benefit from a unique team of teachers, advisors, counselors, and customer service representatives who are dedicated to helping students achieve post-high-school success, whether that’s working full-time or attending a 4-year university of their choice.

What support services are available for families of K-8 students?
Tons! From online chats to spontaneous family get-togethers, the K12 user community interacts in a variety of ways. Independent users also have access to our telephone support reps, free online training seminars and electronic publications. If you are a home-schooling family, visit our For Homeschoolers section for more detailed information.

Do I need any special computer equipment or software in order to use the K12 courses effectively?
Yes. Families need a computer and Internet access. Users in areas where Internet is only available via dial-up may want to consider an ‘Air Card,’ or a similar product, that will give them quicker download times.

You will also need the latest version of Internet Explorer and the following software, which can be downloaded for free from the Internet.

  • Adobe® Acrobat® Reader ® 5 or higher
  • Real Player ® Version 7
  • Macromedia Flash TM Player 6 (Version 6.0.29.0 or higher)
